The skills that I have acquired in project management covers the various complexities of technical knowledge, creative direction, client relations, and proper delegation of tasks. I believe that the wide range of freelance projects I have managed as well as my daily responsibilities at work has been crucial in my development and real-world education in how to take proper ownership of projects. The art of working within the framework of a deadline-driven project is something I have worked at on all the levels during the last nine years.
Here is a quick list of the responsibilities I have taken on in web project management:
Every successful project begins with proper planning before one design mockup or one line of code is written. I have found in planning a project of any scope involves making deadlines based of the proper amount of research and variables. I have found that laying out your plan of attack involves heavily on separating any dependencies of tasks to each other and tasks that are worked on separately from others. The deadline of the project and goal markers are also very important in keeping the client active in the process and meeting their own responsibilities.
Communication is the cornerstone of any business relationship, and I have found this to be exponentially true with settings expectations of web services. A key factor in communicating with clients is explaining the scope of your talents and making sure they understand your capabilities. My goal is always to concentrated on working with breaking down tasks to correlate with vendors and customers expectations.
Web Project Management is defined measurable goals completed and it is important to not confuse activity with measurable tasks. I believe that if you have ownership of a project you are just one piece of a larger machine that needs to be held accountable for task completed. By tracking metrics, each piece of the machine can be accountable to their tasks without having to be distracted from billable project time.
